Google plans to reward sites that always use a secure connection using HTTPS by boosting them in the rankings. With this move, they hope that everyone will start using SSL connection in the near future.
Using HTTPS as the default connection is very effective against man-in-the-middle attacks as well as data protection benefits. Many web giants have long used HTTPS as the default even for sites that do not contain sensitive user data.
„"Over the past few months, we've been doing tests that sites use HTTPS as a signal for our search algorithm. We've seen encouraging results, and that's why we've added HTTPS connection as something to rank sites by. For now, it's a very small signal in terms of ranking weight, but over time it will increase and it will become more prominent and the results will be more noticeable. Of course, we'll give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS, but maybe at some point we'll decide to increase it significantly, because we want to let's encourage site owners to switch from hTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the site."“
Basically everyone agrees with this statement of Google. This is a very positive development in terms of internet security. Nowadays, SSL connection does not cost as much as before. Of course, prices vary from request to request, but for ordinary internet presentations, the prices are affordable even for those sites that do not generate income.
Some will also state that the HTTPS connection slows down the connection to the site, which is true to some extent. But right now, this is the moment when being safe is more important than a few milliseconds of acceleration. Both hosting and computer play a role in speed. That is why it is very important that your hosting provider has an SSD and a minimum 1Gbps connection so that there is no difference between HTTP and HTTPS connections.
This novelty is a win for everyone!
